Dixon Named Naismith Men's College Coach of the Year


ATLANTA (April 7, 2009)
- The University of Pittsburgh's Jamie Dixon has been named the 2009 Naismith Men's College Coach of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.

Auriemma Named Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year

ATLANTA (April 7, 2009) – On the eve of a potential third undefeated season and sixth national championship, University of Connecticut head basketball coach Geno Auriemma has been named winner of the 2009 Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.  In the 23-year history of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, Auriemma now claims six (1995, 1997, 2000, 2002 and 2008) honors, and has won more than any other coach.  He was previously tied with the University of Tennessee’s Pat Summitt with five.

Griffin Claims Naismith Trophy
Oklahoma Sophomore Becomes Fourth Winner From Big 12 Conference


DETROIT (April 5, 2009)
- University of Oklahoma sophomore Blake Griffin has been named the winner of the 2009 Naismith Men's College Player of the Year Award presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today.  He edged out DeJuan Blair (University of Pittsburgh), Tyler Hansbrough (University of North Carolina) and Hasheem Thabeet (University of Connecticut) in becoming the fourth current Big 12 conference winner of the award, and third this decade (Kevin Durant, University of Texas, 2007; T.J. Ford, University of Texas, 2003; Danny Manning, Kansas University, 1988 - Kansas was a member of the Big 8 at the time).

Skylar Diggins and Derrick Favors Named 2009 Naismith
National High School Basketball Players of the Year


ATLANTA (March 11, 2009) – South Bend Washington (Ind.) High School senior Skylar Diggins and South Atlanta (Ga.) High School senior Derrick Favors have been named the 2009 Naismith National High School Basketball Players of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced today. Additionally, Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis High School girl’s head basketball coach Stan Benge and Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) boy’s head basketball coach Steve Smith were selected as the 2009 Naismith National High School Coaches of the Year. Winners in both categories were selected by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, a collection of leading basketball journalists and administrators from around the country, based on performances over the course of the season.
